Frequently Asked Questions
You will be asked to present a photo ID with your current mailing address or a piece of mail with your current address. We will ask for the last 4-digits of your Social Security # to help verify your identity if your Library card is stolen and used by someone else. A person under 18 must have an adult present who is either their Parent or Legal Guardian. The last 4-digits of their Social Security # will be requested. They must also be able to write their name to obtain a card.
To obtain a card, you must either live, work, go to school or own property in Grayson County or be within the Lincoln Trail District which consists of Breckenridge, Grayson, Hardin, Larue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor, and Washington counties. If you do not live within the Lincoln Trail District, then a $10 annual fee will be required along with proof of good-standing from your local library.
Your first Library card is FREE. If your card is lost or stolen, a replacement card is issued for $1.

Books, CDs, and Audiobooks check out for two weeks. DVDs and Videos check out for only two nights. Materials can be renewed over the phone at 270-259-5455 or online.
If another patron has put in a request for a book/movie/cd you have checked out, then you will be unable to renew that item for longer than the original allotted time.
Materials can be returned at the Circulation desk at the library’s main entrance. Drop your materials into the drop box and the circulation clerk will check them in for you. If we are closed or you want to stay in your vehicle there is a Book Depository labeled Library Return located on the left end of the building. Push your items through until they have slid through the chute.
DVDs/videos are charged $2 per DVD/video per day ( i.e. if you have two videos and bring them back two days late you will be charged $8)
We do not charge for overdue books unless they are damaged or never returned. You will then be charged the purchase price of the item. We do, however, have a “guilty conscience” jar located at the circulation desk if you feel the need to donate.
Deposit Books – If you have checked out a Deposit Book, you have 3 months to return/renew the item before your deposit is forfeit. Your deposit is also forfeit if the item returned is damaged.
Interlibrary Loan – If you do not return your items on their due date, you may be charged the price of the book and/or a fee set by the lending library.

If you have requested material and it is ready to be picked up at the library you can use our drive-thru check out! The drive-thru window is located on the left side of the building.

You can request materials in person, over the phone, or online. If the item you are requesting is checked out to another patron, a hold will be placed on that item so that it is unavailable to be renewed or checked out to another person. We will then call you to let you know that your material is ready to be picked up.
You can request materials that we do not currently have in our collection. You may put in a request for books to be added to our collection that have been published or will be published within 6 months.
If we do not currently have the item you are looking for, we can request to borrow that item from another library through Interlibrary Loan. You can do this in person or over the phone. The item needs to be older than 12 months. You can request up to 3 items at a time. It may take several weeks for your item to arrive. Check out times will vary depending on the lending library. Yes! If you are sending a Fax to a local or toll-free number, then there is no charge. Otherwise, it is $1 for every 4 pages sent. i.e. Faxes consisting of 1,2,3 or 4 pages are $1. Faxes consisting of 5,6,7 or 8 pages are $2. We can provide you with a cover page for your fax free of charge.
Yes! Our fax number is 270-259-4552. The name of the person receiving or picking up the fax must be present on the pages being sent. There is no charge to receive a fax.
